Suspected bicycle-riding thief arrested in Austin

A suspected thief riding a bicycle in Austin is facing several charges after being arrested recently, according to KXAN on July 22.

Reports said police arrested 25-year-old Stephen Newberry on July 16 after he was linked to two purse-snatching incidents last month. Newberry reportedly seized a woman’s purse on June 18 while riding a bike and only moments later victimized another woman. Some 22 Austin police worked together to arrest Newberry, who attempted to escape by jumping into a lake. Newberry is currently being held at the Travis County jail and faces several felony charges, including robbery and using a deadly weapon.
